What is Invisible Worlds?

Invisible Worlds is an art and music initiative by Sarah Kraning that translates sound into color, merging live performance with the soundscapes of endangered species and delicate habitats. At its core, it’s about making the unseen visible—turning hidden phenomena and fragile ecosystems into powerful visual experiences that inspire empathy, urgency, and connection.

  • This project is called Invisible Worlds because it gives form to the things we cannot usually see—the colors hidden inside music, the voices of endangered species that fade into silence, the fragile connections between art, sound, and the natural world. These realms exist all around us, but they often go unnoticed. Through painting, performance, and collaboration, the project makes those unseen worlds visible, reminding us that what is invisible still shapes our lives and deserves our care.

  • It starts with an ecosystem or species of interest and partnering organization.

With the support of a musician/band, Sarah creates an artwork inspired by their music and her experience of synesthesia.

The artwork is then layered with the sounds of the specific species/ecosystem.

The final piece is then signed by the featured music artist/s, adding their voices to the Invisible Worlds we are trying to protect.

  • Conservation causes often struggle to break through the noise of daily life, with traditional campaigns feeling distant or inaccessible. Invisible Worlds addresses this by creating a new entry point into environmental action—using music and visual art as a shared language to make conservation personal and experiential. By translating soundscapes of endangered species into vibrant paintings alongside world-class musicians, the project transforms abstract ecological issues into tangible, emotionally resonant experiences. The outcomes are threefold: fundraising that directly supports conservation efforts, education that sparks awareness and curiosity, and creative problem solving that invites people to see both art and the planet through a new, more connected perspective.

My name is Sarah Kraning, and I'm an artist with synesthesia.

Synesthesia is a crossing of the senses, so for me, I don't just hear sounds, I also see them as colors, patterns, textures, and movement.

I've always had a deep desire to share the visual beauty and wonder of sounds with others, so I create artwork to show these worlds that are invisible for most. Growing up, I found so much joy in the visuals I saw when I heard the sounds of nature. I lived near a forest and was in awe of the sparkles that I saw when I heard bird calls and the wispy metallic movements of the sounds of rushing water. There was so much color and life in these sounds, and they gave me a deep appreciation of the natural world.

But then one day, developers moved in and destroyed my childhood playground. I watched helplessly as this colorful world of sound slowly turned gray. My love of the natural world has led me to use my artwork to show what others cannot see.

To help others connect to the beauty that is alive in the sounds around us. In partnering with Rewild, my goal is to showcase the visual beauty of the invisible worlds of nature's soundscapes. My creative efforts focus on engaging emotion through sensory immersion. focusing on the intersection of art, science, and technology. Because of my approach, I've been able to engage with a passionate audience of millions, particularly Gen Z and millennials. I'm excited to bring the beauty of the sounds of nature to others through this partnership, creating collective emotional experiences that inspire new audiences to engage in this cause. Working together, I believe we can inspire millions to become more passionate about protecting the colors of this planet and its invisible worlds.
